Mohammed Fawehinmi

Mohammed Fawehinmi was the eldest son of the late activist-lawyer Chief Gani Fawehinmi, SAN. He had his primary school at Kotun Memorial School, Surulere, Lagos and his secondary education at Federal Government College, Sokoto. He was a graduate of Business Administration from the University of Lagos in 1991. He obtained an LL.B degree from the University of Buckingham, England and was called to Nigerian Bar in 1998. He joined his father's chambers and became the head of the legal department. He was also the director of the Nigerian Law Publications Limited, Gani Fawehinmi Library and Gallery Limited, and the Gani Fawehinmi Foundation. He was involved in several human rights and pro-democracy campaigns, following the footsteps of his father. He was a vocal critic of bad governance and corruption in Nigeria. He also advocated for the rights of persons living with disabilities, as he himself was confined to a wheelchair for 18 years following a tragic accident in 2003 that damaged his spinal cord. He died on August 11, 2021 at the age of 52 after a brief illness. He was described as a courageous and compassionate lawyer who fought for justice and the oppressed.
