Chris Alli

Chris Alli was a Nigerian Army major general who served as the Chief of Army Staff from 1993 to 1994 under General Sani Abacha’s regime and was military governor of Plateau State Nigeria from August 1985 to 1986 during the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida. He also served as the interim administrator of Plateau State in 2004 during a crisis following ethno-religious killings in the state. He was credited with initiating the Plateau Peace Program, which involved dialogue between religious, ethnic and community leaders, and a statewide peace conference. He also gave an amnesty to holders of weapons and a reward for their turning in their arms. He was regarded as a patriot, a peacemaker and a professional soldier who served Nigeria with dedication and loyalty. He died on 19 November 2023 at the age of 78 in Lagos after a brief illness. He was buried at the National Military Cemetery in Abuja with full military honours. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, and other relatives.
