About me / Bio:

Ndubuisi Godwin Kanu was born on 3 November 1943 in Ovim village in Isuikwuato, Abia State. He attended the Methodist Primary School in Enugu and joined the navy in 1962. He went to India for cadet training and held various positions in Personnel, Logistics and Training. He fought for the Biafran side in the Nigerian Civil War and later became a member of Murtala Muhammed's Supreme Military Council in July 1975. He was appointed as the military governor of Imo State in March 1976 and then Lagos State in 1977. He was also a Rear Admiral and served with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon. After his retirement, he became a pro-democracy activist and a leader of the National Democratic Coalition. He also founded and chaired a maritime consultancy company and was a director of Fidelity Bank PLC. He was an advocate of true federalism and decentralisation of power in Nigeria. He died on 13 January 2021 in a Lagos hospital after a long illness. He was survived by his wife, Gladys, and ten children.
