Antonio Fragoso

António Fragoso was a Portuguese composer and pianist who lived from 1897 to 1918. He showed his extraordinary talent at an early age and published his first composition, "Toadas da minha aldeia", when he was 16. He studied piano, harmony, and score-reading at the Lisbon Conservatoire of Music, where he had professors such as Marcos Garin, Tomás Borba, and Luís de Freitas Branco. He graduated with the highest marks in July 1918, but died three months later from the influenza pandemic. He left behind more than 100 musical works, ranging from piano pieces, chamber music, songs, and orchestral works. His style was influenced by Chopin, Fauré, and Debussy, but also had a distinctive personality and originality. He was recognized as one of the most remarkable Portuguese composers of his time, both in Portugal and abroad.
