Evgraf Semenovich Sorokin

Evgraf Semenovich Sorokin was a Russian artist and teacher who was known for his historical, religious and genre paintings. He studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts and won several medals for his works. He traveled to many countries in Europe and the Middle East and created paintings inspired by the local cultures and scenes. He returned to Russia in 1859 and became a teacher at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture. He also worked on the decoration of the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral in Paris and the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour in Moscow. He died in 1892 and was buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery. He left behind many paintings and icons that are displayed in churches and museums in Russia and abroad.
