Ivan Shishkin

Ivan Shishkin was a Russian landscape painter who was closely associated with the Peredvizhniki movement. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and the Saint Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts, where he received a gold medal and an imperial scholarship. He traveled to Europe and was influenced by Caspar David Friedrich and other German painters. He became famous for his realistic and detailed depictions of forests, fields, and animals. He was also a master of etching and drawing. He collaborated with Vasily Perov and Ivan Kramskoi on several paintings. He was a professor of painting at the Saint Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts and the head of the landscape painting class at the Highest Art School. He died of heart failure in 1898 while working on his new painting. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Russian landscape painters of all time.
