Nikolai Bukharin

Nikolai Bukharin was a Russian revolutionary and Bolshevik, as well as a Soviet politician and prolific author on revolutionary theory. As a young man, he spent six years in exile, working closely with fellow-exiles Lenin and Trotsky. He joined the Bolshevik Party in 1906 and became a member of the Central Committee in 1917. He was editor-in-chief of Pravda and a prominent leader of the Communist International. He supported Lenin's New Economic Policy and opposed Stalin's rapid industrialization and collectivization. He was accused of being a leader of an anti-Soviet conspiracy and was executed during the Great Purge in 1938. He was posthumously rehabilitated in 1988. He is widely regarded as one of the most influential and original Marxist thinkers of the 20th century.
