Ada Jafri

Ada Jafri was a Pakistani poet and writer who is regarded as the first major female Urdu poet to be published and has been called "The First Lady of Urdu Poetry". She was born in Badayun, India in 1924 and started composing poetry at the age of 12. She married Nurul Hasan Jafarey, a civil servant and a literary figure, in 1947 and migrated to Pakistan after the partition. She wrote several books of poetry and prose, including Main Saz Dhundti Rahi, Shahr-i Dard, and Khushbu Ka Safar. She also wrote a film script and a TV series. She was known for her modern and progressive themes in her writings. She received many awards and honors, including the Pride of Performance, the Medal of Excellence, and the Adamjee Literary Award. She died in 2015 in Karachi and was buried at PECHS Graveyard.
