Attiqur Rahman

Attiqur Rahman was a prominent poet and scholar of Sindhi literature. He was born in Rawalpindi, Punjab, in 1918. He received his early education from his father, Abdur Rahman, who was a lieutenant colonel in the Royal Indian Army Medical Corps. He later studied at the University of the Punjab and the University of London, where he obtained his PhD in English literature. He taught at various colleges and universities in Pakistan and abroad, and served as the chairman of the Sindhi Language Authority from 1979 to 1985. He wrote several books and poems in Sindhi and Urdu, covering topics such as philosophy, history, culture, religion, and mysticism. He was also a pioneer of modern Sindhi poetry, and introduced new forms and styles to the Sindhi language. He died of a heart attack in Lahore, Punjab, in 1996. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest Sindhi poets and scholars of the 20th century.
