Didymus the Blind

Didymus the Blind was a Christian theologian who taught in the Church of Alexandria for about half a century. He became blind at the age of four, but he did not let his disability hinder his learning. He was a loyal follower of Origen, and defended his teachings against the Arian and Macedonian heresies. He also experimented with carved wooden letters to help blind people read. He was highly respected by many church leaders, such as Athanasius, Rufinus, and Jerome, who called him Didymus the Seer. He wrote many works on the Bible and Christian doctrine, but most of them were lost or condemned after the Second Council of Constantinople in 553. He is venerated as a saint by some Oriental Orthodox Churches.
