Muhammad Metwalli al-Sha,rawi

Muhammad Metwalli al-Sha’rawi was a prominent Egyptian Islamic scholar, preacher, and jurist. He memorized the Quran at the age of 11 and joined Al-Azhar University in Cairo, where he graduated from the Faculty of Arabic Language in 1941. He taught at various religious institutes in Egypt and Saudi Arabia, and became the director of the Office of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar in 1964. He also served as the head of the Al-Azhar Mission in Algeria for seven years. He was appointed as the Minister of Endowments and Al-Azhar Affairs in Egypt in 1976, and a member of the Islamic Research Academy in 1980. He was known for his popular and successful Islamic preaching, and his books and lectures on Quran and Islam. He died of a heart attack in 1998 and was buried in Al-Azhar Mosque. He is widely respected and admired by Muslims around the world.
