About me / Bio:
Julia Perez, also known as Jupe, was an Indonesian actress, singer, model, announcer, and businesswoman. She was born on July 15, 1980 and passed away on June 10, 2017. In the early 2010s, she became known for her outspoken statements against conservative Muslim clerics, who deemed her too sexy or "pornographic" for Indonesian audiences. She was also a fitness model, coach, and athlete. She started her career as a secretary in a furniture company, where she met her first husband, French model Damien Perez. They married in France in 2002, but divorced in 2010 due to his alleged infidelity. She then married Argentine soccer player Gaston Castaño in 2013, but they also divorced in 2016. She had no children from either marriage. She made her debut in the film Beranak Dalam Kubur in 2007, and went on to star in several other horror and comedy films, such as Hantu Jamu Gendong, The Shaman, and Pocong Minta Kawin. She also appeared in several TV shows, such as Opera Van Java, Dahsyat, and Pesbukers. She was nominated for several awards, such as the Bandung Film Festival Award for Commendable Film Main Actress in 2013, and the Dahsyatnya Award for Outstanding Guest Host in 2016. She also pursued a career in music, releasing her first album Kamasutra in 2008, which featured the controversial single "Belah Duren". She followed it with several other albums, such as Ost. The Shaman, Jupe VS Dewi Persik, and Julia Perez. She was known for her sexy and provocative image, as well as her catchy and upbeat songs. She collaborated with other artists, such as Dewi Persik, Fitri Carlina, and Cita Citata. She was diagnosed with Stage 2 cervical cancer in 2014, and underwent several treatments, including chemotherapy and surgery. She documented her battle with cancer on social media, and received support from her fans and fellow celebrities. She also raised awareness and funds for the fight against cancer. She died of meningitis, a complication of her cancer, on June 10, 2017 in Jakarta, at the age of 36. She was buried in her hometown with full honors. She left behind a legacy of entertainment and inspiration for many Indonesians.
