Fu Baolu was a Chinese athlete who competed in the men's pole vault at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany. He was the first Chinese athlete to participate in the Olympic pole vault event. He cleared 3.80 meters in the qualifying round, but failed to advance to the final. He also set several national records in the pole vault, with his best mark being 4.10 meters in 1939. He was a member of the Chinese Air Force and served as a pilot during the Second Sino-Japanese War. He was killed in a plane crash during a training flight on July 8, 1943, at the age of 30. He was posthumously awarded the Order of the Cloud and Banner, the highest military honor in China. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of Chinese athletics and a hero of the nation.
