Zaitao

Zaitao was a Manchu prince of the Qing dynasty. He was a half-brother of the Guangxu Emperor and an uncle of Puyi, the last Emperor of China. He was adopted by Yihe, Prince Zhong of the Second Rank, as his successor. He held various military and diplomatic positions in the late Qing period, such as the Minister of the Military Consultancy, the chief of general staff, and the commander of the Mongol Bordered Yellow Banner. He also received several foreign orders and medals, such as the Order of the Double Dragon, the Order of Saint Alexander Nevsky, and the Order of the Precious Brilliant Golden Grain. He was one of the founders of the Royalist Party, which aimed to preserve the ancestral temple of the Qing imperial clan after the fall of the dynasty. He lived through the turbulent times of the Xinhai Revolution, the Warlord Era, the Second Sino-Japanese War, and the Chinese Civil War. He died in Beijing in 1970 at the age of 83.
