About me / Bio:

Xiong Xiling was a Chinese scholar who became involved in politics after the Xinhai Revolution. He was appointed as the first Minister of Finance of the Republic of China in 1912, and later became the Premier and Finance Minister again in 1913 under Yuan Shikai. However, he resigned in 1914 due to his disagreement with Yuan's autocratic policies. He then devoted himself to philanthropy and education, founding several schools and welfare organizations in Beijing and Shanghai. He also supported the anti-Japanese resistance during the Second Sino-Japanese War. He died in Hong Kong in 1937 and was given a state funeral by the Nationalist government. He is regarded as one of the pioneers of modern Chinese philanthropy and a loyal supporter of the republic.
