About me / Bio:
Sarah Millicent Hermione Touchet-Jesson, also known as Sarah Churchill, was an English actress and dancer who was the second daughter of Winston Churchill, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. She was educated at Notting Hill High School and North Foreland Lodge. She began her career as a dancer in the West End, appearing in several revues and musicals. She made her film debut in 1931 in Royal Cavalcade and went on to appear in several British and American films, such as Spring Meeting (1941), All Over the Town (1949), Serious Charge (1959), and He Found a Star (1941), which was based on her first husband Vic Oliver's life. She also performed on stage in plays such as The Sleeping Prince (1953), The Moon is Blue (1954), and The Fourposter (1955). During the Second World War, she joined the Women's Auxiliary Air Force and worked as a photo interpreter for Operation Torch, the invasion of North Africa. She was also a frequent companion of her father on his overseas travels, visiting several countries and meeting many world leaders. She married three times, first to comedian and musician Vic Oliver, whom she divorced in 1945 after having an affair with the American ambassador John Winant. She then married photographer Antony Beauchamp in 1949, who died of an overdose in 1957. Her third husband was Thomas Touchet-Jesson, 23rd Baron Audley, whom she married in 1962 and who died a year later. She inherited his title and became Baroness Audley. She had no children from any of her marriages. She struggled with alcoholism and depression for most of her life and was arrested several times for drunk driving and public disorder. She died of ovarian cancer in 1982 at the age of 67 and was buried at St Martin's Church in Bladon, near her parents' graves. She was a talented and charismatic actress and dancer who had a close but turbulent relationship with her father and lived a colourful and eventful life.
