Misto Treska

Misto Treska was an Albanian translator, diplomat, writer and politician who was born in Treskë, Korçë, in 1914. He graduated from the French Lyceum of Korçë and worked as an editor, journalist and teacher in various cities of the Ottoman Empire. He was involved in many literary and cultural activities and organizations in Albania, Kosovo, Montenegro and Macedonia. He joined the anti-fascist resistance against the Italian occupation in 1939 and was arrested and imprisoned for two years. He later became a political commissar of the Albanian National Liberation Army and participated in several battles and trials against the collaborators. He attended the Congress of Manastir in 1908, where the Albanian alphabet was standardized. He was one of the founders of the Albanian League of Writers and Artists and served as the Chairman of the Albanian Committee for Cultural and Friendly Relations with the Foreign World. He was also the Albanian ambassador in Paris from 1978 to 1981. He translated many French authors such as Hugo, Maupassant, Stendhal and Diderot into Albanian and published some original works of poetry and prose.
