Ali Al-Tantawi

Ali Al-Tantawi was born in Damascus in 1909, into a family of religious scholars. He studied Islamic law at the University of Damascus and became a judge in 1933. He was also a writer, editor, broadcaster, and teacher who contributed to many Arab newspapers and magazines. He was one of the first Islamic scholars to address the issue of Zionism and the Palestinian cause. He moved to Saudi Arabia in the late 1960s, where he continued his Islamic activism and preaching. He died in Jeddah in 1999 and was buried there. He was considered one of the leading figures in Islamic preaching and Arab literature in the twentieth century. He was the recipient of the King Faisal Prize in 1990 for his services for Islam. He wrote many books and articles on various topics related to Islam, such as theology, jurisprudence, history, ethics, and culture. Some of his famous works include A General Introduction to Islam, The Life of the Prophet Muhammad, The History of the Islamic Civilization, and The Commentary on the Quran. He was also known for his eloquent and witty style of writing and speaking, which earned him the admiration of many readers and listeners.
