Leif Larsen

Leif Larsen was a highly decorated Norwegian sailor who participated in the World War II as a member of the Shetland bus, a clandestine operation that transported people and supplies between Norway and the Shetland Islands. He was known for his courage, leadership, and skill in evading the German forces. He was awarded several medals from Norway, Britain, and the United States, including the Distinguished Service Order, the Distinguished Service Cross, and the Medal of Freedom. He was also the most decorated allied naval officer of the war. After the war, he continued to serve in the Royal Norwegian Navy and retired as a lieutenant commander. He also wrote an autobiography and several books about his experiences. He died in 1990 at the age of 84. He is regarded as one of the most remarkable personalities of the entire Second World War and a national hero in Norway.
