Gul Pacha Ulfat

Gul Pacha Ulfat was an Afghan poet, a Maoist activist, and a student leader. He was studying at the Kabul University in the early-1970s. He organized students from Progressive Youth Organization in the university. PYO is considered the first revolutionary communist formation in Afghanistan with Maoist ideology. He was a great speaker and a passionate poet who wrote in Pashto language. He was arrested by the government of Mohammad Daoud Khan in 1973 and executed by firing squad along with other PYO members. He is regarded as the first martyr of the Marxist movement in Afghanistan. His poems reflect his revolutionary spirit and his love for his homeland.
