Hauk Aabel

Hauk Aabel was born in Førde, Norway, on 21 April 1869. He was the son of a doctor and a poet. He studied at the University of Oslo and worked as a tutor and a military officer. He made his stage debut in 1897 at the Christiania Theatre in Oslo, and became a prominent actor in the Norwegian theatre. He was known for his comic roles, such as the naive peasant Ola Lia and the antiques dealer Snild. He also appeared in several silent films in Sweden and Norway, such as Alexander den store, Troll-elgen, and Ungen. He was the father of two sons, Per and Andreas, who also became actors. He was awarded the King's Medal of Merit in gold and the Order of St. Olav. He died in Oslo on 12 December 1961, at the age of 92. He was buried at Vestre gravlund.
