Qamar Gula, an Afghan Canadian musician, was a prominent figure in Afghan music with a career spanning nearly five decades. Born in Nangarhar, Afghanistan, she began singing at a young age and rose to fame in the early 1970s. Her music, which included compositions from her husband Mohammad Din Zakhil and other Afghan composers, resonated with Afghans worldwide, especially the older generation. Known as "The Golden Voice," she maintained her popularity through the years and won numerous awards. After immigrating to Canada due to the civil war in Afghanistan, she continued her music career until her death from a prolonged illness on December 9, 2022.
