Peter Andreas Blix

Peter Andreas Blix was a Norwegian architect and engineer who lived from 1831 to 1901. He studied in Hannover and Karlsruhe in Germany, where he was influenced by the Neo-Gothic style of Conrad Wilhelm Hase. He worked for the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate, where he researched and built canals and rivers. He also designed several villas and hotels in Norway, mostly in Bergen, where he settled as a private architect. He was involved in the restoration of Bergen Cathedral, Håkonshallen, and Akershus Fortress. He was also a pioneer in the conservation of Norwegian stave churches, such as Hopperstad and Hove, where he is buried. He was the founder of the Norwegian Engineer and Architect Association (Tekna) in 1874. He was also a skilled watercolor painter and depicted scenes from Oslo's urban life. He was awarded the Knight of the First Class of the Order of St. Olav in 1896 for his artistic achievements.
