Mahmoud Al-Zoubi

Mahmoud Al-Zoubi was a Syrian politician who served as the Prime Minister of Syria from 1987 to 2000. He was a member of the Ba'ath Party and a loyalist of President Hafez al-Assad. He oversaw a period of economic stagnation and currency crisis, but also initiated some reforms and anti-corruption campaigns. He was dismissed from his post and expelled from the party shortly before Assad's death in 2000, after being accused of receiving illegal commissions from a deal with Airbus. He died of a heart attack a few days later in Damascus. He was buried in his hometown of Khirbet Ghazaleh in the Hauran region.
