Manuel Alvarez Bravo

Manuel Álvarez Bravo was one of the founders of modern photography and the most influential figure in Latin American photography in the 20th century. He was born and raised in Mexico City, in a family of artists and writers. He learned photography by himself, experimenting with different techniques and styles. He was influenced by international movements such as Cubism and Surrealism, but he also captured the essence of Mexican culture and identity in his work. He collaborated with many of the leading artists of the Mexican renaissance, such as Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and José Clemente Orozco. He also worked in the film industry, doing still photography and directing some documentaries. He exhibited his photographs in many countries and received numerous awards and honors. He died in 2002 at the age of 100, leaving behind a legacy of poetic and powerful images that reflect his humanistic vision and artistic sensibility.
