Claudio Brook

Claudio Brook was a Mexican actor who made some 100 film and television appearances during his 38-year career, including five films by Spanish director Luis Buñuel. He was born in Mexico City on August 28, 1927. He started his acting career in the 1950s, appearing in films such as Daniel Boone, Trail Blazer (1956), The Wonderful Country (1959), and Viridiana (1961). He became known for his roles in surreal and satirical films by Buñuel, such as The Exterminating Angel (1962), Simon of the Desert (1965), The Milky Way (1969), and The Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie (1972). He also worked with other acclaimed directors, such as Alejandro Jodorowsky, Arturo Ripstein, and Guillermo del Toro. He won two Ariel Awards for his performances in The Garden of Aunt Isabel (1971) and The Castle of Purity (1973). He also appeared in international productions, such as Licence to Kill (1989), where he played a corrupt Mexican official. He was married three times and had one daughter, Simone Brooks, who is also an actress. He died of stomach cancer on October 18, 1995, in Mexico City. He was 68 years old.
