Manuel Acuna

Manuel Acuña was a 19th-century Mexican poet and writer. He focused on poetry but also wrote some novels and plays. He was a brilliant student who studied medicine at the University of Mexico. He was part of the Nezahualcóyotl Literary Society, where he met other young writers and published his first verses. He was in love with Rosario de la Peña, a woman who inspired many of his poems, but who did not reciprocate his feelings. He committed suicide at age 24 by taking cyanide in his room. His death caused a great impact in the Mexican society and literature. He is considered one of the most important romantic poets of Mexico. Some of his most famous works are Nocturno, Ante un cadáver, and El pasado.
