Feliks Ankerstein

Feliks Ankerstein was born in 1897 in Piaski, a town in the Kingdom of Poland under the Russian Empire. He joined the Polish Legions in 1914 and fought in World War I against the Central Powers. He was wounded in the battle of Raśna and later graduated from the officer school. He refused to swear allegiance to the German Kaiser and joined the Polish Military Organization, a secret resistance group. He participated in the Silesian Uprisings and the Polish-Soviet War. He became an officer in Section II of the Polish General Staff, the intelligence section, and was involved in various covert operations in Czechoslovakia, Trans-Olza, and Carpathian Rus. He was a member of the secret K-7 organization that supervised some of these operations. After the invasion of Poland in 1939, he escaped to Romania and then to London, where he reportedly worked for the British intelligence. He died in 1955 in London. He was a decorated soldier and a skilled spy who contributed to the Polish cause.
