Gabriela Zapolska

Gabriela Zapolska was a Polish novelist, playwright, naturalist writer, feuilletonist, theatre critic and stage actress. She was a representative of the Polish naturalism, who satirized the moral hypocrisy of the bourgeoisie. She wrote socio-satirical comedies, dramas and novels, among which the most famous is The Morality of Mrs. Dulska, a tragic-farce about the petty-bourgeois family. She also wrote 41 plays, 23 novels, 177 short stories, 252 works of journalism, one film script, and over 1,500 letters. She acted on stage in over 200 plays in Warsaw, Kraków, Poznań, Lwów, Saint Petersburg and Paris. She was married twice, but both marriages ended in divorce. She had no children. She died of pneumonia in 1921, at the age of 64.
