Jozef Maria Bochenski

Józef Maria Bocheński was a Polish Dominican, logician and philosopher. He was born in 1902 in a family with patriotic and pro-independence traditions. He studied law, economics, and philosophy in various universities. He became a priest in 1932 and a professor of logic in 1934. He participated in the Polish-Soviet War and the World War II as a chaplain. He taught at the University of Fribourg from 1950 to 1972, where he also served as the rector from 1964 to 1966. He was a leading expert on Soviet ideology and culture, and a founder of the journal Studies in Soviet Thought. He wrote many works on logic, philosophy, theology, and politics, applying the methods of analytical philosophy and Thomism. He died in 1995 in Fribourg.
