Kazimierz Zimny

Kazimierz Zimny was a Polish athlete, who competed mainly in the 5000 metres. He was one of the leading long-distance runners of the "Wunderteam" (along with Zdzisław Krzyszkowiak, Jerzy Chromik, Stanisław Ożóg and Marian Gerard Jochman). He participated in two Olympic Games, winning a bronze medal in 1960 in Rome. He also won two silver medals at the European Championships in 1958 and 1962. He was a four-time Polish champion in various distances and cross-country races. He broke several national records in his career. He was voted among the top ten Polish athletes of the year four times by Przegląd Sportowy. He later became a coach and a doctor of physical culture. He was awarded the honorary citizenship of Tczew, his birthplace, in 2015. He died in 2022 at the age of 87.
