Andrzej Dobrowolski

Andrzej Dobrowolski was a Polish composer and teacher who studied music at the Warsaw Conservatoire during the war and afterwards in the State High School of Music in Kraków. He taught theory and composition in Kraków and then Warsaw, becoming a professor at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz in 1976. He was one of the first Polish composers to focus on music for tape and to combine pre-recorded tape and live performers. He was also one of the first composers to use the Experimental Studio of the Polish Radio in Warsaw, which was founded in 1958. He composed several works for orchestra, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, and electronic media. He was also active in the Polish Composers' Union and the Warsaw Autumn Festival. He received several awards and honors for his artistic achievements, such as the Złoty Krzyż Zasługi, the Krzyż Kawalerski Orderu Odrodzenia Polski, and the Johann Joseph Fux Award. He died in Graz in 1990.
