Georg Jensen

Georg Jensen was a Danish silversmith and founder of Georg Jensen A S, a company that offers a wide range of jewelry, silverware, home decor and dining products inspired by Scandinavian design. He was born in 1866 in Rådvad, a town near Copenhagen, where his father was a knife grinder. He showed an early interest in art and craftsmanship, and apprenticed as a goldsmith at the age of 14. He also studied sculpture at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and exhibited his works at various venues. He opened his own workshop in 1904, where he produced silver objects that combined functionality and beauty. He was influenced by the Art Nouveau style, but also developed his own distinctive expression that was simple, elegant and organic. He collaborated with many talented designers, such as Johan Rohde, Harald Nielsen, Sigvard Bernadotte, and Henning Koppel, and expanded his business internationally. He died in 1935, leaving behind a legacy of timeless Scandinavian design.
