Erik Hansen

Erik Hansen was a prominent Danish architect and professor who worked in the Neoclassical and Modernist styles. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts under Martin Nyrop and Carl Petersen, and later became a professor there. He also worked as an architect for the Danish Ministry of Public Works and the City of Copenhagen. He designed many public and private buildings in Copenhagen and abroad, such as the Danish National Bank, the Danish Embassy in Washington, D.C., the Danish Church in London, the Danish Institute in Rome, and several schools, churches, and villas. He was a member of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and the Royal Institute of British Architects. He received several awards and medals for his work, such as the C.F. Hansen Medal and the Eckersberg Medal. He died in Copenhagen in 1965 and was buried at the Assistens Cemetery. ¹²³
