John Greer Ervine

St John Greer Ervine was an Irish writer who became a prominent figure in the London literary scene. He wrote several plays, novels, biographies, and criticism, and was also a theatre manager and a drama critic for The Observer. He was influenced by the Irish literary renaissance and wrote realistic dramas that depicted the life and conflicts of the people of Ulster. He also wrote comedies that were popular with the audiences and critics. He was a friend and admirer of George Bernard Shaw, and wrote his biography in four volumes. He also wrote biographies of William Booth, the founder of the Salvation Army, and Oscar Wilde, the Irish poet and playwright. He served in the British Army during World War I and lost a leg in the battle of Flanders. He was awarded the Military Cross for his bravery. He died of a stroke in London in 1971.
