Vasily Golubev

Vasily Golubev was a Russian politician who served as the governor of Rostov Oblast from 2010 until his death in 2023. He was born on January 30, 1957 in the village of Ermakovskaya, in the Rostov region, in the family of a miner. He graduated from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys in 1980 and worked as an engineer and manager in various metallurgical enterprises. He joined the Communist Party of the Soviet Union in 1983 and became a politician in Moscow and Moscow Oblast, where he was an acting governor for several weeks in 1999. He moved to Rostov after Vladimir Chub left his post of oblast head and was connected to United Russia. He was elected as the governor of Rostov Oblast in 2010 and re-elected in 2015 and 2020. He was known for his efforts to improve the region's economy, infrastructure, education, health care, and culture. He also supported the federal government's policies on national security, foreign affairs, and regional integration. He died on April 5, 2023 in Rostov-on-Don, after being wounded by a shrapnel during a drone attack by Ukrainian forces. He was posthumously awarded the Order of Courage by President Vladimir Putin.
