Ghulam Dastagir Alam

Ghulam Dastagir Alam was a Pakistani theoretical physicist and professor of mathematics at the Quaid-e-Azam University. He was one of the key scientists who worked on the gas centrifuge project for Pakistan's atomic bomb program in the 1970s. He also conducted research on charge density, nuclear fission, and gamma-ray bursts throughout his career. He was born in 1937 in Faridabad, India and received his education from Government College University, Punjab University, and University College London. He obtained his PhD in theoretical physics in 1967 under the supervision of J.B. Hasted. He also worked with Abdus Salam, Rafi Muhammad, and Harrie Massey. He joined the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) in 1968 and became the director of the Theoretical Physics Division in 1976. He was awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz in 1983 by the President of Pakistan for his contributions to science. He died in Nilore, Pakistan in 2000 at the age of 63.
