Elias Gleizer was a Brazilian actor and comedian, who was born as Ilicz Glejzer in 1934. He was the son of two Polish Jewish immigrants, a shoemaker and a housewife. He began his artistic career at age 12, playing the violin in a youth orchestra. He won the award for best actor in an amateur festival in 1956, and made his television debut on TV Tupi in 1959. His first major work was Joseph of Egypt, a 1964 telenovela. He worked for more than 40 years at Rede Globo, acting in many telenovelas and miniseries. He was known for his versatility, creativity, and satire, as well as his controversial and irreverent opinions. He died of respiratory failure in 2015, at the age of 81.
