陈长兴

Slogan
The essence of tai chi is the heart and the intention.
About me / Bio:
Chen Changxing was a 6th generation master of Chen-style tai chi, which is the oldest and parent form of the five traditional family styles of tai chi. He is most famous as the teacher of Yang Luchan, the founder of Yang-style tai chi, but there is much controversy over which style of martial art Chen actually taught to him. Some sources suggest that Chen Changxing learned from a tai chi master named Jiang Fa, who was not part of the Chen family lineage, and taught a different style to Yang Luchan. Other sources suggest that Chen Changxing reworked two or more of the traditional Chen family routines into his own style, which he called Laojia (Old Frame), and taught it to Yang Luchan and others. Both theories attempt to explain why the tai chi that Yang Luchan's descendants practice is substantially different from the modern Chen routines, but neither theory can be completely verified. Chen Changxing was a bodyguard by trade and often made trips to Shandong Province. He defeated many bandits and had a reputable name in martial art circles. He also passed the highest level military examinations in 1693, and was appointed by the Kangxi Emperor as the head superintendent of a county in Shaanxi Province. He was known for his loyalty and bravery, and was respected by the people. He taught the art of tai chi to several disciples, including the Dai brothers, who became the founders of the Shanxi branch of Chen-style tai chi. Chen Changxing is regarded as one of the most influential figures in the history of Chinese martial arts.
