Cem Karaca

Cem Karaca was a prominent Turkish rock musician and one of the most important figures in the Anatolian rock movement. He was a graduate of Robert College. He worked with various Turkish rock bands such as Apaşlar, Kardaşlar, Moğollar and Dervişan. With these bands, he brought a new understanding and interpretation to Turkish rock. He was also known for his political and social activism, writing songs that criticized the injustices and oppression in Turkey. He faced censorship, persecution, and exile for his outspoken views and artistic expression. He was accused of treason and separatism by the Turkish government in the 1980s, and lived in Germany until 1987. He returned to Turkey after the restoration of democracy and continued his musical career until his death in 2004. He was buried in Karacaahmet Cemetery, the oldest and largest cemetery in Istanbul. He is widely regarded as a legend and an icon of Turkish rock music, and his songs are still popular and influential among different generations of listeners.
