Sun Yun-suan

Sun Yun-suan was a Chinese engineer and politician who served as the premier of the Republic of China from 1978 to 1984. He graduated from the Harbin Institute of Technology in 1934 and worked as an engineer at the National Resources Commission and the Taiwan Power Company. He was known for his expertise in power generation and transmission, and earned the nickname "Father of Taiwan's Electricity". He joined the ROC government in 1967 as Minister of Communications, and later became Minister of Economic Affairs in 1969. He was responsible for planning and implementing the Ten Major Construction Projects, a series of infrastructure projects that boosted Taiwan's economy and industrialization. He was elected as the premier by the National Assembly in 1978, and served under President Chiang Ching-kuo. He was known for his economic reforms, his diplomatic skills, and his moderate views. He was involved in several important negotiations, such as the Three Links, the Taiwan Relations Act, and the Kaohsiung Incident. He resigned in 1984 due to health reasons, and lived in retirement until his death in 2006. He was regarded as one of the most influential and respected figures in modern Taiwanese history.
