Chang Chun

Chang Chun was a Chinese chemist and politician who served as the premier of the Republic of China in 1972. He graduated from Tsinghua University and Cornell University, and was a professor of chemistry at National Central University and National Taiwan University. He was a pioneer in the field of polymer science, and made significant contributions to the development of synthetic fiber and plastics industry in Taiwan. He was also a close associate of Chiang Kai-shek, the leader of the Kuomintang ("Chinese Nationalist Party"), and held various positions in the Nationalist Government, such as the minister of education, the minister of economic affairs, and the president of the Academia Sinica. He was elected as the premier by the National Assembly in 1972, but resigned shortly after due to the political turmoil caused by the Nixon visit to China and the expulsion of Taiwan from the United Nations. He left politics in 1973 and lived in retirement until his death in 1986. He was known for his scientific achievements, his integrity, and his moderate views. He was regarded as one of the most influential and respected figures in modern Chinese history.
