Dimitris Mitropanos

Dimitris Mitropanos was a Greek singer who was renowned for his mastery of laiko, a Greek music style. He began his musical career in 1964, when he moved from his native city of Trikala to Athens. He worked with some of the most renowned Greek composers, such as Mikis Theodorakis, Stavros Xarhakos, Giorgos Zabetas, Manos Hatzidakis, Marios Tokas, and Thanos Mikroutsikos. He recorded his first single in 1967, but it was censored by the Greek military junta. He achieved fame and recognition in the 1970s, with albums such as Agios Fevrouarios, O Dromos pros tin Kythera, and Ta Sinaxaria. He collaborated with leading artists of the laiko and entekhno music, such as Haris Alexiou, Dimitra Galani, and Eleftheria Arvanitaki. He also performed in concerts in Greece and abroad, and participated in several music festivals. He was considered one of the most popular and influential singers of his generation, with a distinctive voice and style. He died in 2012, at the age of 64, after suffering a heart attack. He was buried at the Athens First Cemetery, with thousands of fans and celebrities attending his funeral. His songs and albums are still widely played and appreciated by the Greek public.
