Titos Vandis

Titos Vandis was a Greek actor who appeared in more than 100 films and television shows between 1953 and 2000. He began his career on the Greek stage in the late 1930s and won the Best Actor award for the film Poliorkia at the Thessaloniki International Film Festival in 1962. He left Greece when a dictatorship took power and lived in the United States for 24 years. He made his Broadway debut in the Tony-nominated musical On A Clear Day You Can See Forever in 1965. He also starred in Illya Darling, a musical based on his film Never on Sunday, in 1967. He played various roles in American films and TV shows, such as The Exorcist, Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (*But Were Afraid to Ask), Kojak, and Hawaii Five-0. He returned to Greece in the late 1980s and continued to act in films, theater, and television until his death from cancer in 2003. He was a supporter of the Communist Party of Greece and a versatile character actor who could play comedy, drama, and tragedy. He was married six times and had no children. He was buried at the Athens First Cemetery.
