Guillermo Timoner

Guillermo Timoner Obrador was a legendary Spanish cyclist, born on March 24, 1926, in Felanitx, Balearic Islands, Spain. He is widely regarded as one of the most successful motor-paced racers of all time. His career spanned over five decades, during which he won six gold and two silver medals in the UCI Motor-paced World Championships between 1955 and 1965. Before turning professional, Timoner worked as a carpenter. He won his first competition in 1943 and retired around 1965 to work in commerce. However, his passion for cycling never faded. He reappeared as a cyclist in 1983 and took part in the World Championships in Barcelona in the masters category. In 1995, at the age of 69, he won the European Championships. Timoner's impact on Spanish cycling was profound. He was not only a champion on the track but also a mentor and coach. He served as the head coach of the Spanish track cycling team from 1971 until 1978 and took part in the Munich Olympic Games in 1972. His younger brother Antonio was also a competitive cyclist. Timoner's legacy extends beyond his medals and titles; he inspired generations of cyclists and contributed significantly to the growth of cycling in Spain. Guillermo Timoner passed away peacefully on August 17, 2023, in Felanitx, at the age of 97. His passing marked the end of a remarkable and illustrious life dedicated to cycling.
