Dieter Laser was a German actor who had a career spanning over five decades. He appeared in both German and English-language productions, and achieved international recognition for his lead role as Dr. Josef Heiter in the 2009 horror film The Human Centipede (First Sequence) and its 2015 sequel The Human Centipede 3 (Final Sequence). He also had a recurring role as Mantrid in the sci-fi TV series Lexx from 1998 to 2000. He won the German Film Award in Gold for his title role in John Glückstadt (1975) and the Best Actor award at the Austin Fantastic Fest for The Human Centipede (First Sequence) (2009). He was also nominated for the LA Scream Awards for Best Villain in 2010. He starred in the Estonian fantasy film November (2017), which was his last film appearance. He died on 29 February 2020 at the age of 78. His death was not announced until a message to his official Facebook page was posted on 9 April 2020. The cause of his death was not disclosed. He was survived by his wife Inge, who revealed his passing on social media. He was praised by his fans and colleagues as a force of nature, an unique human being and an iconic actor. He left behind a legacy of pop culture and memorable performances.
