About me / Bio:
.Jules Verne was a French novelist, poet, and playwright who is widely regarded as one of the founders of modern science fiction. He wrote more than 60 novels, as well as numerous short stories, plays, essays, and poems, most of them part of his series Voyages extraordinaires (Extraordinary Voyages). In these works, he combined scientific facts and discoveries with imaginative scenarios and adventures, creating some of the most popular and influential stories of his time. Some of his best-known novels include Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas (1870), Around the World in Eighty Days (1872), The Mysterious Island (1874), and From the Earth to the Moon (1865). He also wrote about topics such as aviation, space travel, submarines, electricity, and volcanoes, anticipating many inventions and discoveries that would later become reality. Verne was born in Nantes, a port city in western France, where he developed a fascination for ships and travel. He studied law in Paris but soon turned to writing, collaborating with the publisher Pierre-Jules Hetzel, who became his lifelong friend and mentor. He married Honorine du Fraysne in 1857 and had one son, Michel, who later edited and published some of his posthumous works. Verne lived most of his life in Amiens, where he was active in local politics and cultural affairs. He was also a member of the Legion of Honour, France’s highest order of merit. He died in 1905 at the age of 77 from complications of diabetes. He is buried in the Cimetière de La Madeleine in Amiens. His legacy as a visionary and pioneer of science fiction has inspired generations of writers, filmmakers, artists, and explorers. He is one of the most translated authors in the world and has been adapted for various media since the beginning of cinema. He is also considered to be an important figure in French literature and culture, as well as a source of national pride and identity.
