Audie Murphy

Audie Murphy was born in a poor family of sharecroppers in Texas. He lost his father at a young age and his mother died when he was a teenager. He had to work hard to support his siblings and became a skilled hunter. He joined the army in 1942, after falsifying his age, and fought in several campaigns in Europe during World War II. He received 33 military awards, including the Medal of Honor, for his bravery and heroism. He was also honored by France and Belgium for his service. He became a national hero and a celebrity after the war. He starred in more than 40 films, mostly Westerns, and also wrote songs and poems. He suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder and advocated for the veterans' rights. He died in a plane crash in 1971 and was buried with full military honors. He is remembered as one of the greatest American soldiers and a talented actor and songwriter.
