Hem Vejakorn

Hem Vejakorn, born M.L. Hem Dinakara on January 17, 1904, in Phra Nakhon, Bangkok, was a renowned Thai artist and writer. He is celebrated for his illustrations for the covers of 10-satang pulp novels and his ghost stories, which have influenced generations of Thai artists. Hem produced over 50,000 pieces of art, including drawings, watercolors, posters, and oil paintings, depicting rural life, Thai history, and figures from Thai classical literature. His works have been featured on Thai postage stamps and in art galleries. Hem's early life was marked by academic challenges, attributed to a lack of parental care, yet he continued to pursue his artistic passions. He contributed to the renovation of murals in Wat Phra Kaew during Bangkok’s 150th anniversary and later established his own publishing house. Hem's legacy extends beyond his art, as he engaged in various projects, including creating oil paintings for royal visitors before his death on April 16, 1969, in Thon Buri, Bangkok.
