Kara Mahmud Bushati

Kara Mahmud Bushati was a hereditary Ottoman Albanian governor of the Pashalik of Scutari and de facto ruler of northern Albania. He belonged to the Ottoman Albanian Bushati family. He was the son of Mehmed Pasha Bushati, the founder of the pashalik. He succeeded his brother Mustafa Pasha in 1775 and expanded his domain by conquering parts of Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia, and Epirus. He also fought against the rival pashas of Berat and Delvina, and resisted the Ottoman attempts to curb his power. He was known for his military skills, administrative reforms, and patronage of arts and culture. He was killed by Montenegrin forces at the Battle of Krusi in 1796, and his pashalik was abolished by the Ottomans in 1831.
